“WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SERVICE”

This was the common theme across communities in West Africa as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints carried out her annual All Africa Service Project(AASP) on 17^th, August 2019. This year’s exercise - the 13^th in the series, saw members of the Church along with their non-member friends focus on keeping their environment clean. Ten countries in the Africa West Area of the Church actively participated in the exercise. Senegal, participating for the first time, embarked on a blood donation exercise at the National Blood Transfusion Center in Dakar to help save lives.

In Ghana, Church leaders and members partnered with individuals and organizations to clean, weed, desilt drainages, fix potholes, paint road medians and public buildings. Below are some of the projects engaged in during the exercise:

Adenta Stake

The 2019 All Africa Service Project took place at the Demonstration school for the Deaf at Mampong and the School for the Blind at Akropong.

At the end of the exercise, Mr. Emmanuel O. Tettey, the Senior House Master from the school of the Blind expressed his profound gratitude for the good job done. He said “We are very happy and much impressed about the work done. There has been thorough weeding, sweeping, removal of cobwebs and trimming of hedges. You know the students here are blind and cannot see so they cannot weed, and we don't have grounds men to help so I must say that we are very happy that you have done all these things.”

Ashaiman Stake

Members in the stake cleaned, cleared drainages and painted buildings at the Ashaiman Police Station and the Ashaiman Polyclinic. They also cleaned and painted the road median and curbs beginning at the main market traffic light all the way to the Presby junction.

Christiansborg Stake

Over 500 members in the Christiansborg area left the comfort of their homes as early as 7:00 a.m. to go serve at the New Horizon Special School, an education and training centre for children and adults with intellectual disability.

Kaneshie Stake

The Kaneshie Stake chose to weed the middle of the Awoshie-Ablekuma highway. The exercise was carried out in partnership with Ga Central Municipal Assembly and Anyaa NADMO Zonal Council. Members from each unit of the stake were present to see that the work was executed.

Kpong District

 The district leadership identified four locations for the exercise namely, Ayipala Health Center – Kpong; Somanya District Post Office; Asuogyaman District Assembly and Asutsuare Maternity Clinic and children ward.

Madina Stake

The Adjringanor Basic School, Adjringanor received a face lift as members cleaned the environment and painted their buildings.

Takoradi Stake

About 600 members and non-members in the stake worked for over four hours in selected health institutions within the boundaries of the stake.

   At the Effia Nkwanta Regional hospital, they cleaned windows, mopped floors, removed cobwebs, weeded and swept the compound of the hospital. They also cleared blocked drains. Similar exercise was carried out at the Takoradi Government Hospital and at the Agona Nkwanta Health Centre.

Teshie Stake

The community fish landing beach in Teshie received a major facelift as over 800 participants comprising members and non-members from the Teshie and Nungua communities worked for hours to clean up the beach which had become severely polluted. Cleaning Services vehicles carted away truckloads of waste from the beach during the exercise. At the end of the project, everyone wore broad smiles on their faces especially the fishermen could not believe how clean their landing area had become.

Tema Stake

About 900 members along with their non-member friends came together to render service in the Tema Polyclinic, Kpone Health Centre and at the Sakumono TMA JHS Complex. Services rendered included cleaning, weeding and painting. Members of the Women Heritage Club in Kpone joined with the Church in giving the Kpone Health Centre a new look while members of the Noble Ladies of Tema West participated in the project in the Sakumono school complex.

Kasoa Stake

For this year's service, members of the Kasoa Stake worked on the major roads in the Kasoa Township, Bawjiase and environs. They swept, cleared built up debris and desilted drainages.
