Ofankor Health Center Receives Laboratory Equipment

Hospital ready to provide laboratory services

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through its humanitarian department LDS Charities, has donated new laboratory equipment to the Ofankor Health Center in Accra. The equipment which are designed to analyze blood samples and assist in the diagnosis of illnesses, included a fully automated Hematology Analyzer, Olympus Microscope and High-Speed Centrifuge. Other items donated to the hospital were countertops, cupboards and refrigerators.

The gesture is in response to an appeal sent to LDS Charities by authorities of the health center in June 2018 for the supply of laboratory equipment.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Dr. Doris Arhin, Director of Health Services at the GA West Municipal Assembly, commended the Church adding that it has over the years played an important role in the delivery of quality healthcare to the people.

According to her, the Church supported the Amasaman District hospital with the construction of a borehole at a time when the area was faced with water crisis. She further promised that they will ensure the efficient use of the laboratory equipment to serve the common good of the people.

Dr. Victor Caesar, Acting Medical Superintendent for the Hospital explained that the facility currently runs an eight-hour service at the Out-Patient Department (OPD), however, the supply of the laboratory equipment will enable them to run a twelve-hour service including laboratory services.

“With the supply of these laboratory equipment, we are confident that we can provide the needed laboratory services to our patients”, he said.

Enoch Aninagyei, Laboratory Manager for the Hospital assured representatives of the Church that free services will be provided to individuals who do not have the means to pay for the laboratory services they require.

Elder Geoffrey Germane, Africca West Area Welfare Specialist, reminded authorities of the hospital of how important maintainance is to the Church. "These are scared funds from members of the Church worldwide. Every project we support must be properly cared for and of maximum benefit to the people" he said.

Latter-day Saints Charities is committed to providing service to all races, nationalities and religions and to encourage beneficiaries to participate in giving back to their own communities.
