Groundbreaking Announced for Abidjan Cȏte d'Ivoire Temple

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced today that the Abidjan Cȏte d’Ivoire Temple groundbreaking will take place on 8th November, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. The temple site is located in Cocody City. Attendance at this ceremony is by invitation only, with the general public invited to view the proceedings live from local meetinghouses.

The Abidjan Cȏte d’Ivoire Temple will be the Church’s 8th temple announced or operating in Africa, joining those in Johannesburg, Durban, South Africa; Harare, Zimbabwe; Nairobi, Kenya; Kinshasa, DRC; Aba, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana. The Church currently has 160 operating temples worldwide.

The Church’s temple differs from the meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a “house of the Lord” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside, members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve Jesus Christ and their fellow man.

NOTE: A media section will be provided for the groundbreaking ceremony. Media covering this event are asked to be onsite no later than 9:40 a.m. to capture video, stills and audio from the talks given and the actual breaking of ground. However, media are respectfully asked not to record the dedicatory prayer.
