Women Join Hands with Prison Ladies to Celebrate Anniversary

Women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated the Relief Society’s 174th Anniversary with the Ghana Prison Ladies Association (PRILAS).

The celebration included a health walk and a preventive health lecture on March 19. In addition to celebrating the anniversary, the walk’s objective was to create union among the women and promote the habit of exercising.

The walk started at Pig Farm, passed through Dzorwulu, and ended in a Church meetinghouse in Achimota. Once at the meetinghouse, homoeopathist Emmanuel Arthur taught preventive measures and treatment for diseases that affect women.

The Relief Society is for women ages 18 and over. Its purpose is to provide support for the temporal and spiritual needs of all women in the Church, as well as others who are in need. The Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the largest women’s organizations in the world.

Alice Bobbey, a member from the Kwabenya Ward (An LDS congregation) said she was happy about the health walk. It was a moment when women united for a common goal, which was to glorify and serve the Lord by serving one another.

She also said “I’ve lived in different places, but anytime I go to a new branch or ward (church congregations) there is a bond which makes me always feel at home.”

ACO Dorcas Bonnah, a member of the PRILAS, said “I didn’t know anything about the Church although I have been hearing its name. Today, I now know what the Church is about. This activity will help strengthen the youth to acquire knowledge.” She then asked to be invited to future Church activities because they would like to participate.
