Young Adult Summit Held in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region

More than 670 young single adults between the ages of 18 to 30 years gathered at the Sunyani Technical University to participate in a three Region Young Adult Summit of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from August 3-5, 2017.

Young adults travelled to the conference in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region from places like the Tamale District, Nkawkaw, Bibiani, Sunyani and all three stakes (a stake is similar in size to a diocese) from Kumasi and Obuasi.

“I am much happy to be here with many Latter-day Saints,” said 20 year-old Comfort Amewuho. “I feel gratitude for us to be together and find joy is serving each other. These are days I do not forget through the rest of my life.”

The theme for the program was “Building the Rising Generation,” taken from Doctrine & Covenants 69:8.

The summit was organized to create an opportunity for young single adults to associate together, as well as offer support in fulfilling worthy personal goals and making decisions about marriage, education, career and finances.

Activities included games, workshops, movie nights, talent shows and lots of mingling.

The program was hosted by the Kumasi Ghana Dichemso Stake President Kofi Gyimawu Sosu who gave the closing remarks. Sosu reminded the young single adults the future of the Church relies on them. Young adults are exposed to many opportunities, which they must grasp and make the most of.

He added that this program was organized so that the single adults will not say in the future, “Had I only known…”.  President Sosu counselled if the young adults should apply all the principles learned at the summit, their future will be bright.

Gathering young single adult members of the Church in a conference or activity is a regular practice throughout the world. Young people help plan, with the assistance of leaders, activities and workshops that provide opportunities to expand learning, encourage leadership skills and enjoy social experiences.
